My trip to the writing center was pretty typical. I got some corrections and suggestions on my literary analysis as well as some helpful tips and ideas for future writing assignments. During my trip to the writing center my helper gave me pretty much the same corrections and suggestions that Dr. D provided. They suggested that I provide more connections of my quotes to my thesis. They also suggested that I have a more "original" conclusion where I summarize my points in a different way then I did in my thesis.
My experience to the writing center helped me establish a better since and purpose of writing. And how different papers and different forms of writing have different purposes. Also that when writing to inform the reader on a topic you should include a thesis that introduces your topic briefly and generally. And in your body paragraphs you should explain each topic specifically that was introduced in your thesis. And the conclusion that restates all of the main points of each body paragraph as well as conclude the purpose of you entire paper.

I have my first real gymnastics competition tomorrow and I can't wait. It's LA Open which is our home/ host gymnastics meet. The bad part is that there's barely any competition because its at the beginning of competition season and because its at night. Also this weekend I am super excited about watching football. I can't wait to see the Saints and 49ers game on Sunday. I say that because my mom is a huge fan of the Saints and I'm a huge fan of 49ers.
Also, I'm really excited about Thanksgiving Break because I am really tired of school and all the work because my teachers decide to cram in last minute work before breaks which is really stressful and frustrating. I think I have at least fifteen different assignments that took some time and effort. But luckily I planned out the homework for Thursday and Friday and the upcoming week on Wednesday. That helped me manage my time of which assignments to do during tutorial and during study hall. I did the assignments that take more time and thought during study hall and the smaller, "easier" assignments during tutorial and break. And I did most of my work that is due Monday during school on Friday.

Do It Yourself
Write a "day of the life" post.
In the day of the life of Jamiee on a school day is pretty boring and busy. First, I wake up around 6:50 or 7:00 depending on how much sleep I did or didn't get. Then after I plow myself out of my bed I brush my teeth, wash my face and brush my hair which takes about 15 minutes all together. Then I get dress. I wear a school uniform so its pretty easy to decide what to wear. While I get dress I put on lotion if needed. After I get dress I get my school stuff and head towards the kitchen. I then fix my breakfast which is usually something really easy and fast to make. My breakfast usually consist of cereal, biscuits, eggs, grilled cheese or cinnamon toast. Around 7:35 I leave my house and on my way to school I eat my breakfast or review/ study for a test or quiz I may have that day. When I get to school its probably around 7:43 because I live pretty close to school. I'm at school for about eight hours and I leave around 3:35 unless its Wednesday which is when I tutor until 4:30.
After School I go home and do homework until its gym time. I usually never finish so after three to four hours of working out I have to come home to more homework and studying. When I get home from gym I usually eat first or while I'm doing work. By the time I've eaten and finished my homework its around 10:30 or 11:00 sometimes later depending on the amount of homework I have. After I finish I take my bath, brush my teeth and wash my face within about 30 minutes. Then I finally get to sleep. I go to bed between 11:15 and 12:30 everyday.
On Saturdays I wake up at around 7:45 or 8:00 and brush my teeth, wash my face, brush my hair and get ready for gym. I have gym from nine to three and at around twelve we eat lunch. After gym I'm really exhausted so I take like a one to two hour nap after I eat. Then I wake up and do any homework that I may have while I watch football. And on Sundays I do pretty much nothing because that's usually my resting day. But I go to church in the morning and then sometimes after I may go grocery shopping with my mom. When I get home I watch TV, sleep and do any last minute homework or studying I may have.

Deserted Island.?
I thought the deserted island activity we did in class was pretty weird, fun and crazy all at the same time. I thought that because I could never really see myself stranded on a island with my classmates. If the situation were to happen in real life I think it would be pretty chaotic and wild at first but would hopefully get better. I think if it were really to happen I think people would've been fighting a lot more for different "positions" because they had to deal with the fact that they were stranded as well as not having resources being handed to them. Also I think people would've been crying and very emotional or at least most of the girls.
I think our class would be really good at assigning and committing to the different jobs. And at being able to work together and keeping each other as comfortable as we could get as well as looking after each other and keeping each other safe. We would probably encounter the typical troubles of not being able to find food and water or not being able to start a fire. Also we could possibly encounter some wild animals like mountain lions, bears or moose?

Free Post.!
I am pretty excited or at least sort of excited to start reading Lord of the Flies. I say this because tons of "upper classman" have said that the book is really good. Also because of the activity we did in class Thursday? has me wondering what this book is really about as well as the message or theme this story will leave me with. Also the title of book leaves me with multiple with different questions, such as who does the lord refer to.? What do flies have to do with being stranded on an island? Or does flies symbolize some type of journey? Is the title some type of code the boys on the island created and used?
Also, I am super excited about the upcoming months because it means that Thanksgiving and Christmas Break is coming soon. I can't wait for those breaks it seems like the teachers are giving us an excess amount of unnecessary work and its sometimes way too much to deal with especially if you have sports. Also, I'm ready to get these midterm exams over with because that means I'm half way done with my freshman school yea which means only like four to five months until Summer. I can't wait until Summer but it won't really be a "Summer" because it'll be a little over two months that's filled with unnecessary Summer assignments considering that Summer is suppose to be a break from school. I mean we are kids, we can only take so much overload of work before we explode. Also, my Summer will be filled with gymnastics practice and camps which is totally fine because its fun and I'll be working level nine and ten skills for the upcoming meet seasons.

I had my first gymnastics meet today, Saturday October 26th. But technically it wasn't a "real gymnastics meet" considering there was only one judge when there is usually about two to four judges. Also because we didn't really compete against anyone but ourselves. We call this gymnastics meet a Mock Meet. Mock meets are really important because they help my teammates and I learn and realize where we are physically and mentally in gymnastics. Also it helps us prepare for competition season by getting us in a more meet like atmosphere. Which is completely different from repeating routines and skills over and over in front of just your coach. Also I really enjoyed this mock meet in particular because our girls upper level team got new warm ups this year; they were really comfortable.
Also, I am really excited about this upcoming week. I can't wait to dress up for Homecoming week based on the different themes and see everyone else's clothes/ costumes. Also this week I get to get back in the gym and work on the skills i need to improve on or messed up at my Mock Meet.

Reading Response(s)
I chose to read and annotate Sucker, Araby and The
Sniper.
I thought Sucker was a really interesting short story considering the theme
and narration. It was told in first person limited. The story was told from
Pete’s perspective as a reflection or flashback of why him and Sucker don’t
have the same relationship anymore. I thought the theme was “you never know
what you have until its gone.” Pete started to miss the old relationship and
very little amount of fun times he had with Sucker after Sucker broke away from
him.
Araby was a little more
challenging for me to understand but I eventually got it. What stood out the
most in Araby was the way the author used vivid language to describe ordinary
things; he made those things seem like something new. For example he wrote,
“The space of the sky above us was the colour of ever-changing violet and
towards it the lamps of the streets lifted their feeble lanterns.” This
sentence only stated that the Sun was setting and the streetlights were
beginning to come on.
My favorite out of all the three
was The Sniper. I really enjoyed the
overall plot of this story and how the author included a lot of specific
descriptions on every move the sniper or another character made. The
descriptions provided helped me to visualize the actual story as if it was
happening right in front of you. What surprised me the most in this short story
was the ending, the sniper killed his brother. The death of someone he knew was
kind of foreshadowed when the author wrote, “When the sniper reached the
laneway of the street level, he felt a sudden curiosity as to the identity of
the enemy sniper whom he had killed. He decided that he was a good shot,
whoever he was. He wondered did he know him.”

Out of the many short stories I've read in the past week or two, I would say To Da-Duh was one my favorite. I would say this one was one of my favorites because it includes tons of descriptions and comparisons between New York and Barbados that help contribute to the theme or plot of the story. Also, I really liked how this story included different adjectives and descriptions that help add context and a visual idea of certain characters. In the beginning of the story in the first couple of paragraphs the author includes certain descriptions that helps me to picture of what certain characters look like.
For example in paragraph three it states "Her face was drowned in the shadow of an ugly rolled-brim brown felt hat, but the details of her slight body and of the struggle taking place within it were clear enough- an intense, unrelenting struggle between her back which was beginning to bend over so slightly under the weight of her eighty-odd years and the rest of her which sought to deny those years and hold that back straight, keep it in line." Those coupe of lines tell the readers that she was over eighty years old, she was skinny and lean and she had a slight bend in her back from previous
struggles.

Reading Response
Last week I finished the book Insurgent so I had to choose a different book to read this week. I chose to read Grace, Gold & Glory. It was written by Gabrielle Douglas, 2012 London Olympic women gymnastics all-around gold medalist. This book is a biography consisting of Gabby's struggles and victories through out her life. It also includes tons of detailed information on her journey to the Olympics. She describes some of the sacrifices her family and coaches had to make for her to have the opportunity to go to the Olympics.
I chose to read this book because a major part of my life relates to the things Gabby had to go through, just not as extreme. Gabby also explains how she overcame fears and struggles and how she would pray certain scriptures based on her situation. This relates back to me because all gymnast experience fears when throwing new skills and trying to accomplish new goals. I think if I try some of her approaches towards fear maybe I could have some better results when overcoming them or controlling them.

Character's Voice
Today was a crazy day at school. My teachers tried to arrest me and one of best friends is dating the meanest girls in school. Okay, I know what you are thinking. Arrested? For what? Fighting? Drugs? But no I'm a good kid, except when someone makes me mad. I'm just a fifteen year old demigod. What damage could I cause? And if you don't know the answer to that then I'll tell you. A lot. I'm fifteen meaning my powers are starting to kick in, full effect. And me being only fifteen I don't really know how to control my powers,so I have to stay as calm as possible. Which was really difficult stating the fact that practically every girl in my school hates me and they'll do anything just to tick me off. Why does every girl in school hate me? Good question. I am best friends with probably the smartest, most attractive and most athletic guy at school. I mean we're like two peas in a pod and we do almost everything together. And girls at my school drool over him, when I just think he's just like every other guy (not counting our relationship). Every girl wishes they could just say one word to him but their huge egos and non modest pride gets in the way, every time.
Okay back to my story about my crazy day at school. Like I said before every girl in school HATES me and so they decided to egg my car, flat my tires, nail my locker shut, and they replaced my chemistry chemicals, which resulted in an explosion in my face. Great first day, right? Horrible. I know what you're thinking. Evil. And why don't I just report them to the principal and get them all expelled, but obviously I can't or I'll be the only girl in school. But who cares cause I don't. Also, I couldn't contact the principal or bring my mom into this because that could possibly result into the exposure of me being a demigod.
Those horrible girls doing those horrible things resulted in me to blow up. I was so ticked off I couldn't control myself. I punched every single girls locker in the school making huge black dents and creases that couldn't be fixed unless you brought another locker. I put chemicals in every girls school drinks and luckily it didn't kill them because they noticed the unusual bubbles coming from the glass. I even glued all of the girls bathrooms' door shut. HA. Best pranks ever. I was then called to the office and my punishment was replacing everything that was damaged and suspension. Not bad it could be completely worse. I was only suspended for five days and replacing the damaged lockers and bathroom doors were super easy since my dad was basically rich.

E Book
For my E-Book I plan to make a few of changes to my literacy narrative. I plan to change some names in the book, particularly the name of the teacher I mention in my literacy narrative. Also, I may change some formatting. I will hope to change the font and maybe add some pictures as well. I would also like to add video or audio to our class E-Book that relates to everyones' literacy narrative. And I would like to add pictures that relate to the title of our class E-Book.
My concerns for my E-Book is that I've never written one or participated in the creation of one. Is an E-Book like one big book with different stories separated into chapters or is it more like a magazine where each story is like an article? Or does the formatting even matter and you get to format it any way you want?

Reading Response
This week I finished Insurgent. Throughout the book of Insurgent the tempo and plot changed. The tempo changed from calm and patient to exciting and action packed. The character's goals also changed throughout the book. The goals may have changed from wanting to earn someone's trust to collecting information to save a faction. Also, the relationship between Tobias and Tris becomes stronger towards the end of the book. They get out all of their secrets out and they learn to listen and trust each other more often.
Tris also takes some new sides and lies a little to get to the things she wants. Along with the bad she comes out with some good. She is able to rebuild relationships and make some new ones. She is also able to learn and discover new things about herself and her life. Tobias learns to listen to Tris and her decisions. He also learns to respect her a lot more. Their relationship grows a lot stronger, mentally and physically.

Reading Response
I chose to do my reading response on the literacy narrative we are writing in class rather the usual book summary. I considered blogging on this because I can't really give much information on Insurgent without being totally bland or spoiling the book for future readers. Anyways my literacy narrative has come along pretty well, but I' not doing so well with the vivid language part. It's really hard for me to add vivid language particularly because when I write or type I usually do it in an informative way. Literacy narratives are informative but also like a story as well. In my literacy narrative I tried to include as much dialogue as possible because that was the easiest way for me to use vivid language.
I based my literacy narrative was based on writing and how it has changed over the years from a particular event. The event including me writing a thoughtful essay to a book. I did pretty well on the essay from the help of my previous teacher. I'm most excited about just the basic story line of my narrative essay and the direction it's going in. My biggest concern is obviously finding a way to add more vivid language in my essay without making it sound natural, not cheesy.

Dialogue
"Hey, My name is Stacy. What's yours?"
"My Name is Leah."
"Oh! That's a nice name. Are you from here?"
"Umm... No I'm from Wisconsin."
"Oh. I've never been there. Is it pretty?'"
"I guess. There's lots of mountains and forests, nature stuff."
"That sounds really nice. I've always wanted to visit there. What's the capital of Wisconsin?"
"Madison."
"Cool. How long do you plan on staying in Baton Rouge?"
"The rest of my life, I guess. Well, until my family has to move again."
"Why does your family have to move around so much?"
"Because of my dad's job. He gets stationed in different places from time to time."
"Oh, sounds fun. Is it?"
"No. I mean not too bad, but every time we start to settle down we have to get up and move again. So, I usually have to leave my new friends behind which sucks."
"Yea I bet. So what do you plan on doing all Summer?"
"I think I'll do the usual: swim, tan, relax, go on vacations, sleep, etc."
"Sounds fun. What grade are you going in to?"
"I'm going into the seventh grade."
"Really? Me too! What school are you going to?"
"Northwestern Middle."
"Oh. One of my friends goes there. What's your favorite school subject?"
"Umm... I'm a real big fan of books, so probably English and Literature."
"Ugh. I hate reading. I'm a math fan. Do you play any sports?"
"Yea. I play soccer and softball."
"Oh. That's cool, I'm a gymnast. What positions do you play in both?"
"I play forward in soccer and second baseman in softball."
"Oh. You seem really fun. Do you want to hangout sometime this Summer?"
"Sure, except I can't hang out on Saturdays because I have to babysit my younger siblings."
"That's okay. How many siblings do you have?"
"I have one younger brother and sister and one older brother."
"Oh. Well I have to go to practice. We should talk again sometime. Do you want my number?"
"Uh. Yea."
"It's (225) 123-4567. Talk to you later. Bye."
"Bye."

Literacy Narrative Response
My response is on the literacy narrative I read for homework. The literacy narrative I read was Mother Tongue. The main topic of this literacy narrative was about how knowing the proper English language effected a child's life. The child was Amy Tan. She explained throughout the story that how the English language effected her relation with her mother, her relationship with others, etc. Amy Tan also uses examples from her life to explain these situations. She includes some particular examples where she would have to speak for her mother in business interview over the phone because her mom's English wasn't as precise as hers. She explained how her mother not being fluent in English limited her. It limited her vocabulary and exposure.
Amy Tan also describes how at home she would speak English the way they did, as she described "broken" English, and when she was away from home she would speak sophisticated, precise English. She even described how her family spoke English. She stated that they spoke English without articles, such as the or a. She changed her vocabulary and English depending on her surroundings. All the events Amy Tan describes leads back to event where she finally spoke proper English in front of her mother.

Reading Response
I am still reading the book Insurgent and I am still loving ever minute of it. In this book so far ,from the last reading response, many violent events have occurred. Also a multiple amount of conflict are beginning and are continuing to uprise between the factions including Candor, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity and the factionless. Also tons of alliances are being built and are starting to come closer or deactivate from attacks. Divergents are being either killed or kept for their use. And all this intense action is being caused by Jeanine Matthews, Erudite leader.
Tris has become really helpful with figuring out what the Erudite's next move is with the attacks and stimulations. Everyone trusts her information or thoughts towards Erudite because she is the only Divergent that tested three factions in her aptitude test, including Erudite. Also in these past chapters Tris and Four's relationship has been more and more on the edge, being tested within themselves and with others. Four tries to stay clam and trust Tris but it gets harder and harder each second, with Tris not valuing her life.

Reading Response
I am now reading the book Insurgent. It is the second book in the series after Divergent. I chose to read this book because many students in class recommended this book. Also, because I loved Divergent and couldn't wait to find out what happened to Tris and Four. Throughout reading this book I find myself learning more about the factions and learning more about Tris and Four. Also I find myself noticing the different ways the author ,Veronica Roth, brings back characters that may have not been in the last chapter but appear in the next. She does this in a really creative way. For Example Tris and Four get arrested in the book and she brings back Christina and Uriah during this scene.
When reading Insurgent I analyze the different characters and compare the changes they've made or went through. For example I compare Abnegation Beatrice with the now independent, Dauntless initiate Tris. Beatrice second guessed herself a lot as now Tris usually kind of just goes for it and thinks about the consequences later. Throughout Insurgent you get many explanations of relationships and things that may have happened in this past, these events get clarified and you get a better understanding.

Free Post- Gym Story
For the past 2 weeks my gym (the place I do gymnastics at) made us start working out on Saturday's, which basically means no social life. We start gym at nine in the morning and end at three in the afternoon. For the first maybe hour to hour in a half we do conditioning and strength work, including arms, legs, stomach, back, cardio, etc. Then after conditioning we stretch for a good ten to fifteen minutes. Next we start working on our events. Levels seven through ten start on beam, then bars, then floor and vault is last. In between events we get a fifteen to twenty minutes lunch break at eleven thirty.
After lunch we then go do ballet, which is horrible. Let me explain, gymnasts trying to do ballet without looking ackward in some way is impossible. We look similar to elephants trying to ice skate. Ballet is just so unnatural for my teammates and I its ridiculous. Our coaches make us practice ballet because it will make our dance (leaps, jumps, turns, etc.) in our floor and beam routines look ten times better. Usually after ballet everyone is really tired so we just try to push through the last couple of hours of workout as much as possible, together.

Free Post
I'm really excited about the upcoming year, as a high schooler and as a freshman. I mean who wouldn't? You aren't that much closer to finishing school and graduating. I think I am most excited about the freedom the high schoolers have and the funs days they have planned, such as Twin Day for Homecoming Week. I am also really excited about meeting new people that are new to the school and meeting the teachers I have, new or old. I am even excited about sports. Mostly track because i hope to run for the varsity team and hopefully earn a leatherman jacket. I am also excited to compete at high school state for gymnastics, because I know it will be a lot easier compared regular competitive gymnastics.
What I am probably least excited about as being a high schooler is probably the work. Anything that deals with work from the amount of it and the difficulty. I know the work will be a lot more challenging and harder than middle school, especially since I am pretty much in all Honors or AP courses. I am also not really excited about having to be the one of the youngest students in high school since I am a freshman, which means I am at the bottom of the totem pole. Which also means we don't get as much advantages as the juniors or seniors but then again we may also get more warning than the juniors and seniors since it is our first year of high school.
They may cut us some slack, but who knows?

Reading Response- Divergent
I really enjoyed the book Divergent. What I liked about it was that it had action, mystery and a little romance. Also, I really enjoyed reading about the development and change of Beatrice aka Tris. I also enjoyed the way the author sequenced the book, how she ordered the events.
My favorite character in Divergent, I would have to say is Four (Tobias). I really liked his personality and the way he confronted people including Tris. Also, I liked how he tried to help Tris, even though she was weak, instead of being harder on her. Four also had a lot of self awareness, meaning he knew who he was and no one was going to change that. Also, I thought that Four was really clever with the choices and decisions he made. He chose to change his faction and his name , so it would't remind him of someone that hurt him so badly, his father.
Divergent makes me wonder what life would feel like with factions. Would it be more united or more separated? I think it would be more separated in a certain way, because you are basically separated your entire population into five groups based on their strengths. I think if this was to happen people in different factions wouldn't talk to people out of their faction. I, also think if this was to happen many people would probably try and answer the same way their friends and family did during the stimulation test or they would all choose that same faction during Choosing Ceremony so they would't be separated.
